Sample some of Wales’ finest local produce, with everything from cured meats to gourmet chocolate at this charming seafront market.
Set against the sweeping backdrop of Swansea Bay and the Mumbles lighthouse, the Mumbles Produce Market on the second Saturday of the month is undoubtedly a highlight of the village calendar. Join the crowds of locals who come here to socialise and fill their baskets with their favourite delicatessen-style produce from over 30 different stalls.
You will almost certainly leave with more than you came for, as the displays of fat olives glistening with marinade, the scents of freshly baked breads and roasting meats, and the allure of deli-style chocolate are often too tempting to resist. Choose between fruit and vegetables from an organic farm, smoked meats and gourmet sausages from local butchers or artisan pastries. Stall-holders are always happy to chat about their products, or offer advice on recipes.
Taste the many free samples as you make your way around the market and enjoy locally made cheese, rich pate and freshly squeezed juice. If this whets your appetite, grab yourself one of the ever-popular venison or wild boar burgers. Vegetarians can choose from a tasty range of pies. Take your food down to the promenade just a few metres away and enjoy stunning views across the bay and back towards Swansea as you eat.
The Mumbles Produce Market takes place on the second Saturday of the month in the seafront car park. It runs from 9am until 1pm, though it’s best to get there earlier as many of the stalls run out of produce by the end of the morning. If you are staying in the village, you should walk to the market as parking can prove difficult due to its popularity.
